Ways to Increase Traffic—Website Rules of Thumb

Everyone in Internet marketing wants to increase traffic. Website tricks have developed over the years to do this. Some are good tactics, while others are completely off base. Let’s look at some of the good practices that will increase your traffic.

• Keep the pages small. Page weight is a basic measure of how long it will take your page to load. What happens if a web page takes more than a few seconds to load? More often than not, people will hit the Stop or Back buttons and go somewhere else. So don’t overwhelm your viewers with bells and whistles.

• Have as much white space as possible. This is especially true around your text. You can go off-white with little or no trouble. The idea here is to make the page easy to read. Viewers aren’t going to hang around very long if your page is hard to read, and they’re far less likely to go to any other pages on your site.

• Use viewer-friendly fonts. This goes hand-in-hand with the last tip. While most websites get the idea that specialized fonts, no matter how “pretty,” are a bad idea for readability, there are a great many that don’t see that Arial, Calibri, and Verdana are much easier to read than Times New Roman. Also, a good minimal font size is 12-point. For the most part, you would have no reason to use a font larger than 16-point.

• Make your site easy to navigate. Your internal linking structure isn’t just important for making the viewers experience of your site easier; it is also a consideration in search engine ranking.

• Keep your content interesting and relevant. If you want repeat traffic, it’s in your best interest to regularly update your content. Also remember, keep it relevant to your demographics.

These tips are only geared toward improving the viewer’s experience. There are a great many other things you can do to your web site that will improve your search engine rankings. These tips, however, will keep them coming back for more.

Work on the Internet, Work from Home

Internet work from home jobs are becoming some of the most wanted jobs in this current economy. It’s a small wonder, really, since the already jaded “in house” workforce is getting laid off at an alarming rate as more companies file bankruptcy. Now that you’re here, why not get as much money as you can out of it?

While there ARE many jobs available for Internet workers, selling your own product is the winner in income, hands down. There are, however, some rules of the road that must be learned. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there on how to do it.

Between out of date information or complete myths about the subject, wading through the available material on Internet marketing can be a daunting task. What you need to start with is the basic level, yet most up to date material. How do you sort through all this information?

• Don’t rely on marketing forums. There are many know-it-all newbies on these lists. Think of it this way, if they have enough time to regularly post on marketing forums, then they’re not busy enough at their actual jobs. Besides, do you really think an “Internet marketing guru” is just going to give you free advice so that you’ll be a potential competitor?

• Don’t rely on any Internet marketing, AdWords, or SEO guides that are older than a year old. The playing field of Internet marketing changes so frequently that if the copyright is for last year, it’s OUT OF DATE.

• Beware of techniques that promise high rankings within the month. While these techniques may very well deliver on getting search engine rankings quickly, they can also be black hat techniques, and can get your website banned from then on.

These three main ideas will prepare you for most of what you’ll encounter on the quest of your Internet fortune.
